The LA Section of AIAA Aero Alumni program presents monthly meetings inviting Aerospace industry retirees to stay current with industry events and to share personal interests and experiences related to their careers. The format is about an hour of technical discussions followed by a luncheon.
Members occasionally make formal presentations for discussions of interest. Subjects have ranged from statistical analysis of rainfall records in Los Angeles County to the Viking Mars Mission Meteorological Instrument, quantum mechanics and black holes, developments in aerodynamic theory, “How Flies the Albatross”, and many other topics.
The Aero Alumni program was initiated by Howard Marx, Guido Frassinelli, and friends in about 2010. We invite you to continue developing and evolving it.
Aero Alumni members have supported one another in preparing presentations at the AIAA Los Angeles Section Conferences / events, Orange County Section ACES conference, ASCEND conferences and other venues.
Careers of members have included work on: aircraft & spacecraft design from preliminary concepts, through flight test, production, operations, and maintenance. Technical specialties range from mission & systems engineering, configuration development, stability and control, structural & thermal analysis, verification & test, manufacturing & procurement, program management, materials & processes, lasers, missiles, ground support systems, antique and homebuilt aircraft including LA Section’s two replicas of the 1903 Wright Flyer. In summary we have members from the essential gamut of the aerospace industry.
One of our members has written extensively about aerospace history including programs in the American Legion, Civil Air Patrol, the American Rocket Society, the Institute of Aeronautical Science, and the AIAA. He mentors young professionals writing historical papers at several high schools & universities.
Members supported Mike Ciminera for the AIAA to publish his book “The Aircraft Designers – A Northrop Grumman Perspective” including nominations for book-of-the year awards.
Joining this community of experienced engineers and scientists can be a capstone of your career and membership in the AIAA. Besides, you’ll join an impressive group of new friends.
