AIAA Los Angeles-Las Vegas Section (AIAA LA-LV) Visions and Goals)

“The mission of the LA-LV Section is to benefit AIAA members within our territory by:

• Advancing the arts, sciences and technology of aeronautics, astronautics, and their allied fields

• Facilitating communication between scientists and engineers in the Section and with other professional groups

• Encouraging original research

• Fostering dissemination of new knowledge

• Furthering the professional development of those engaged in scientific and engineering activities

• Improving public understanding of the profession and its contributions

• Recognizing outstanding professional accomplishments

We support this mission through a diverse program of events for members at all stages of their careers, technical activities, newsletters, support of STEM K-12 and Student Chapter activities, social media postings, honors and awards, active coordination with other AIAA Sections, INCOSE, IEEE, and the National Space Society and by recording events and publishing the videos and podcasts on line.  We use feedback from our events to plan future programs, determining what works for our members and what they would like to see that is different.  We work closely with local museums (Western Museum of Flight, California Science Center, Columbia Space Center, etc.) to ensure we take as much advantage of the rich aerospace heritage in the area as we can, and we create excitement and interest in aerospace through events such as the Space Architecture Workshops. Our 79 events in 2020-2021 drew large audiences of enthusiastic participants from around the world and increased local interest and membership in the Institute.”

All Section members are highly welcome to to join us in supporting this mission. We appreciate your participation.

AIAA National/Overall Description/About AIAA:

Our purpose is to ignite and celebrate aerospace ingenuity and collaboration, and its importance to our way of life. Our promise is to be your vital lifelong link to the aerospace community and a champion for its achievements.

One Remarkable Fact Says It All: Since 1963, members from a single professional society have achieved virtually every milestone in modern American flight. That society is the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. With nearly 30,000 individual members from 91 countries, and 95 corporate members, AIAA is the world’s largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession. Created in 1963 by the merger of the two great aerospace societies of the day, the American Rocket Society (founded in 1930 as the American Interplanetary Society), and the Institute of the Aerospace Sciences (established in 1933 as the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences), AIAA carries forth a proud tradition of more than 80 years of aerospace leadership.

AIAA National/Overall: Mission, Vision, Tagline, and Credo

AIAA exists to help aerospace professionals and their organizations succeed.

AIAA’s vision is to be the voice of the aerospace profession through innovation, technical excellence, and global leadership.

AIAA’s tagline is “Shaping the Future of Aerospace.” It reflects our belief that AIAA members are continually shaping the future of Aerospace through their creativity, ingenuity, and passion for Aerospace engineering and science.

Our new credo is a rallying cry for our profession – and a reminder that our work is ultimately about the collective human impulse to explore, to invent, and to come together around our discoveries.

As aerospace professionals, we have devoted our lives to understanding what many people believe is unknowable. We pursue the undiscoverable. We work in the uninhabitable. We ponder the indecipherable. Dream the impossible. Chase the unattainable.

And in the end, we routinely accomplish the unimaginable. We unravel the mysteries of flight and space, constantly finding new ways of showing gravity who’s boss.

But if our work is to continue, we must also ignite the imagination of people outside the profession, convincing them that the things we learn, and the things we create, are important. That daily life is better because of them.

And that is our reason for being at AIAA. To foster an environment that helps our members succeed. Where their work can be enriched, acknowledged, and advanced. To that end, we provide an intellectual meeting place where ideas can be exchanged among members in industry, government, and academia. Where partnerships can be formed. And global collaboration can thrive.

At AIAA, we celebrate our members’ ingenuity and achievements, from the small but brilliantly simple to the complex missions that alter the course of human existence. We lay the groundwork for future advances by creating an atmosphere that inspires innovation. And we help the world to understand the need for it.

We provide continuity and camaraderie for our members, wherever their careers may take them. And we ensure their adaptability in an ever-changing industry.

We provide a launching pad for emerging professionals. And a welcoming atmosphere for students pursuing careers in aerospace.

At AIAA, we work hard to make sure that aerospace professionals are recognized for their contributions in making the world safer, more connected, more accessible, and more prosperous. And we prove every day that with enough support, enough intellectual stimulation and enough collaboration, nothing is impossible.

Our purpose and our goal is to fuel our members’ imaginations. To support their ambitions. And to inspire the rest of the world to do what has always come naturally to us.

To dream.
